Deportation Defense Lawyers

Deportation — formally called removal — is the process by which the government seeks to expel a noncitizen from the United States. Cases are heard in immigration court, where defenses can include asylum, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, or challenging the charges themselves. Detention and bond are often immediate concerns. The attorneys below represent people in removal proceedings before immigration judges.

Common questions

What starts a deportation case?

The government files a Notice to Appear charging removability — for example, entering without inspection, overstaying a visa, or certain criminal convictions. You have the right to a hearing before an immigration judge; removal is not automatic.

Can I be released from immigration detention?

Many detainees can request a bond hearing before an immigration judge. Whether bond is available depends on the charges and criminal history — some categories are subject to mandatory detention with no bond option.

What defenses are available in removal proceedings?

Common forms of relief include asylum, withholding of removal, cancellation of removal (for long-term residents with qualifying family), adjustment of status through an eligible petition, and prosecutorial discretion. Eligibility is highly fact-specific.

Do I have the right to a lawyer?

You have the right to hire an attorney at your own expense, but the government does not provide one in immigration court. Given the complexity and stakes, representation makes a significant difference in outcomes.
